What is Freemasonry?

Freemasonry is one of the world’s largest and oldest non-religious and non-political fraternal and charitable organisations. It is open to people from all walks of life, regardless of their race, religion, sexual orientation or socio-economic position in society. We at Stanford Lodge have been in Worthing since 1881.

The Masonic core principles

Freemasonry instils in its members a moral and ethical approach to life: it seeks to reinforce thoughtfulness for others, kindness in the community, honesty in business, courtesy in society and fairness in all things.

Brotherly Love

Every true Freemason will show tolerance and respect for the opinions of others and will behave with compassion and understanding to his fellows.

Relief

From earliest times Freemasons have been taught to help those in distress without detriment to their dependents, and to give their support to outside charities.

Truth

Freemasons strive for truth both in their view of themselves and in their dealings with others. Masonry requires high moral standards and its members endeavour to uphold these principles in their public and private lives.

Truth

Freemasons strive for truth, requiring high moral standards and aiming to achieve them in their own lives.

IMG_20201003_123015.jpg

Freemasons believe that these principles represent a way of achieving higher standards in life.

This makes all Freemasons want to live a better and more fulfilling life. We always strive to make a daily advancement in Masonic knowledge.

Being a Freemason gives a great opportunity to build personal confidence and even develop professionally as every Mason has as much a chance as they wish to practice skills such as public speaking, researching information, learning ritual and development in many other areas of life.

‘’ Freemasonry has given me so much confidence. The guys at Stanford Lodge are encouraging and very Supportive. I now feel so much better equipped to deal with whatever work or life throws at me! I now give after-dinner toasts and speeches, something I really never thought I would be able to do. Stanford Lodge, a great group of like-minded people who want everyone to succeed’’ Stanford Lodge Member.
